Vanishing Trick
Voxigraph is now under investigation by the Empire, my sources tell me very likely the companies assets will be seized soon and the Empire will have complete control. Lord Houl and several of the senior directors have vanished from London in the wake of the peace summit in Prague which occurred in secret on the 1st June. You would think that they did not want the war to end, makes you wonder what else is going on. I also understand that the Empire has new technology that will take the Voxigraph networks to the next level, based upon Graphene Optics I believe. Remember last year I reported on those two doctors joining the directorship:
Dr. Nu Vesper Calif
Dr. E. Tyrell
They too seem to have vanished off the face of the globe although my sources inside the Empire tell me that Dr. Nu Vesper Calif may have changed his name and entered into the Empire service as researcher in Wales. As to his whereabouts I currently have no clue.
Battle at Pumlumon
The Cambrian Mountains in Wales particularly around the summit of Pumlumon has been a place of considerable interest over the last few days, first there was the appearance of two Russian airships and early this morning my sources report a battle between Empire warships and the Russians. Secondly the whole of the summit and much of surrounding area has been cordoned off by the Empire since the war begun eighteen months ago, however at night it is possible to see a white light pointing up from the summit. During the battle my sources tell me that this white light became visible during the day it changed to deep orange mixed in with what looked liked to black holes that intermittently flash on and off. Apparently one of the Empire's warships crashed into the summit however it is unclear what happened next since my source at the time lost her portable Linker connection, I am still trying to contact her but so far no luck. The Empire has put out a news blackout over the entire area and even my sources cannot extract anything useful.
Death in Shadwell
This came from one of my trusted sources at a well known London newspaper that has strong Empire ties which is why the story has been quashed. My source states that it would seriously affect the peace process, I very much doubt that but we will see when people read this article. Mr Arthur Minion found his master a well respected scientist (his name has also been removed) in an alley close to Shadwell Basin dead. By all accounts that I have received so far he appears to have died of fright although I have nothing concrete because an autopsy has not been done. The reason being is that the body vanished on the way to morgue.
The Minion family is well known in London as servants to the rich and powerful not to mention their less than savoury connections to the criminal underbelly of the city. Who is this scientist and why is the Empire so interested in keeping his death quiet? What happened to the body? Many questions and no answers. Not surprisingly Mr A. Minion would not comment on his previous master's business, he would only say that "...it was family business."

Carlisle vs. HMS Dolphin
My sources in north Wales tell that me that the HMS Dolphin a corvette of the King’s Royal Air force has crashed into the main train station in the town. Apparently it happened just after a train had arrived from Glasgow, there was a bright white light and the corvette that was seen hovering overheard was split in two bursting the gas-bags on either side. It is fortunate that Heliumite has such a high buoyancy otherwise the two pieces would have come crashing down at a far faster rate than they actually did.
The train station was evacuated and the only casualties that my sources have been able to confirm is that four crewmen of the fifteen that man a corvette are currently missing, no evidence of bodies found thus far.
With the recent news in the press about the Russian peace summit one wonders if they are really are committed, what type of weapon can cut through GrapherIron like it was paper? More importantly what is the motive for the attack?

Discoveries That Changed the Post War Empire
During the post war era of the late twentieth century two inventions/discoveries changed the very course of the Empire and made it into what it is today.
Heliumite
Originally hydrogen was used as the lifting gas of airships however even before the advent of the second war it was known that the gas is highly flammable and easily set off from a little spark. At the end of the war a Welsh scientist Tomas Connah who had originally been working on deep sea diving and the use of other gases to breath at greater depths, had an accident occurred at his lab at Southampton navel docks where a diver lost her life (she was married to Tomas). The resulting gas became known as Heliumite. Helium itself is quite rare and expensive to produce in large quantities but the process that Connah discovered was cheaper and seemed to create more gas from less gas.
The exact process is a state secret and the Empire has the monopoly on the sale of Heliumite.
Heliumite has the same atomic weight as its cousin but does not expand in high altitudes and has a greater lifting power than hydrogen which seems to break the laws of physics. There is however much that the Empire keeps from public regarding this unusual gas.
GrapherIron
Technically not actually made of iron in anyway, the actual material is Graphene and an epoxy resin which when bonded together becomes the hardest and lightest material known to man. Its uses range from the very small (paint to generate electricity on tall buildings) to the very large (skyscrapers and the superstructure of airships and spaceships).
GrapherIron when used as a envelope for an airship creates a frictionless surface that significantly decreases drag and thereby increasing velocity close to 160mph although that is dependent upon the class of airship.
This allowed the Empire to build virtually indestructible airships for the military and commercial use.

The Unexplained!
Here is something that really bugs me about people especially those that consider themselves to be scientists is the used of the following two words: Supernatural & Paranormal. If you look this words up in the dictionary they have a common terms associated with them:
Effectively the phenomena is unexplained, why o’ why do we have to have two words for one word. Unexplained means that science has not got around to figuring out why this happens.
The problem really begins when people associate these words with pseudoscience and immediately anything that is unexplained falls into this category. Whereby no serious scientist will even look into it for fear their reputation, if it was just left as unexplained then this problem would be mitigated somewhat.
Supernatural is associated with religion which is pointless since it has been proven that the gods exists along with the less nice entities like Cthulhu despite what the bulk of the public believe or should I say what the Empire wishes us to believe. They are not super anything, they exist end of story and as we all know religion is just a dogmatic belief structure that has no real value when connected to beings that are fact. Of course the issue comes with understanding the answers they supply which is where religion comes in, the priests interpret who are just as unlikely to understand the answer as anyone else. The dogma is man-made and completely meaningless like many historic traditions.

Voxigraph Failures
The uptake in the use of Voxigraph technology in the last eighteen months has been dramatic to say the least even the war has not slowed its pace. Although as yet it does not rival BEN (Babbage Empire Network) in size except in its instantaneous communication over that of the old telegraph/ticker tape methods. The issues with BEN are inherent with the original system design of an Open System. Open Systems are always prone to abuses and attacks from dishonest folk. In order to send secure communications over BEN a system of keys are required at either end thereby slowing the whole process down whereas with the Voxigraphs the connection is vocal and so far incredibly secure at least that we know of. Another issue with BEN is that certain companies that maintain the network around the globe continue to impose restrictions which slow everything down despite the Empire’s assurances that BEN is faster than ever.
Eighty percent of the Voxigraph network is used by government offices and military bases across the Empire at this time there is only a small uptake in private and commercial use. The Empire has become quite dependant on the Voxigraph network over the last year due to the disruption in radio signals, the cause of this disruption is still of much concern. Many theories have been put forth most however seem to come from fringe scientists like Max Drum who state that the Conjunction is the cause of everything bad happening in the Empire at this time.
In the last month there have been a number of failures to the Voxigraph network and according to my sources at key times when high up government officials were out of position. The directors of Voxigraph were unavailable for comment however their public relations spokesman stated that the failures were due to “Acts of nature…” and had nothing to do with the war whatsoever, they were merely coincidences. The chances of it being a coincidence is as likely as a honest man in Parliament, one wonders if their network is as secure as they have advertised to the Empire. It does beg the question in light of how the enemy has been able to gather its intelligence so very well indeed.

Ghost Airships (9th May) & The King
Ghosts
Russian airships have been spotted all over Europe but only for moments at a time, they have a distinctive colour scheme of red covering the top half of the skin of the airship and below that all black. The various sources I have in Europe say the people are calling them Russian Ghosts, none of these ghosts have attacked so far some of my sources have stated that a black dust rained down after the Ghost vanished.
Three separate sources in Denmark have informed me that Black and Red Airships have been seen over Nyborb, Aars and Sylt. My sources in Denmark are very reliable and very good at ferreting out any information although that normally involves food.
These airships were seen just about the same time as London got up close and personal with one, although it was for a brief period. Enough to scatter the dockers in every direction, my sources on the scene afterwards say there was an odd burn mark dirigible shaped on the ground. One might think that the airship was doing something against the laws of physics and the Universe pushed back.

I understand the King is meant to be making a speech tomorrow and there is some talk of a National holiday to be announced. London has also been heavily covered in posters I think the slogan is:

Shakes came to see to me today back at Thrawl Street, I mean Carrie she complained at me last time that she hates that name despite that she's so good saying the sonnets like a posh lady. She was in a terrible state, kept saying they've taken it over and over again. I finally got her calmed down with a little slo gin from the old lady below us, the bulge in her stomach had completely gone. I was sure she wasn't due for another month, grasped in her hand was a velvet envelope. She said "They taken my baby and gave me this." holding the envelope up for me to see. I asked when did this all happen, she started to cry. A little more gin and some for myself, then in short little bits she told what happened.

Young Blood seeks Older & Missed Again
Young Blood seeks Older
In a recent study it has been shown that the injection of blood from a young mouse into a vastly old mouse has improved memory and agility. Is it me or this sort of the thing the last thing we want at a time like this, I mean the Empire is at War. Do we really need the Age of the Vampire at this time as well?
Missed Again
On another subject all together it appears that the penal colony on Ganymede is in uproar after several inmates and guards witnessed an orange vortex in the sky which ejected a massive asteroid and a satellite. According Fleet headquarters spokesman both objects are on a trajectory that will leave our solar system and never been seen again.
Astronomers on Callisto have identified both objects, the asteroid is that of 19880 which went missing in 2011 and the satellite is none other than Corcas's Breadth of God designed mostly by Max Drum. The only comment that Max Drum gave to the press today is that "It is sign." which is unusually closed mouth of him. You may wonder whether he was worried about the asteroid, known a HL 129, which hurtled passed us early morning on Saturday. It seems nobody bothered to tell the public of its potential doom, it passed within 186,000 miles.
Corcas's Breadth of God was supposedly designed to capture asteroids by pushing them into an orbit that would come closer enough to the Earth so that they could be mined. The Empire denies all involvement in the original project.

Rumours of the Front
The war begun over a year ago now and it seems like more innocents died every day despite the assurances from the Empire that we have fought the enemy to a stand still. Bonnybridge and its children still in the hands of the enemy, the rumours I have collected are worrying indeed. There is talk of cannibalism on the battlefields of Europe whilst the news from Bonnybridge is that civilians held there are going missing. My sources are close to the town but cannot leave for risk of capture by Russian troops. They however can see some sort of light north of the town during the night. The rail link from Falkirk has been cut close to St Helen's Loch, a coal train derailed there.
I have used my considerable resources to help as best I can with the fight but the enemy seems to be several steps ahead of us which can mean only one of two things we have traitors in my midst or the enemy have an undetectable method of intelligence gathering. Both possibilities are quite worrying I am not sure which I would prefer.
One of my sources however has thrown up a name that may help one Du Pre Alexander, he was a director of the EIC before the Empire dispersed it so my source tells me. Aside from that there is not much on him except that he has traveled quite considerably and a number: 729.

I am Still Here!
Just a quick post to say that I am still here, back in the heart of the Empire and whilst I have my own problems with the way the Empire runs itself I am still a patriot!
I spent some considerable time trying to gather anything useful from my sources this past year it is amazing how well the enemy has covered itself in an impenetrable fog of disinformation and blind alleys. Like snakes in Blighty information is very thin on the ground but I am sure I will be able to extract something useful soon.
To the soldiers on the front:
May the Gods be with you and Tyche clear your path.

This is War!
Hot off the Presses! In a sneak attacked by the Russians, northern Britain has been overrun by Russian paratroopers supported by three Dreadnought class airships. Bonnybridge and the surrounding villages have been completely secured by the invading force.
The bulk of the Russian Army and Navy are massing on their borders readying for a push into Europe, the balloon has gone up people! No declarations of war involved, they just simply attacked. One of my sources close to Bonnybridge has stated that Russian troops were heading towards Dun Troddan which is quite odd because there isn’t anything there just an old Broch.
The Empire has condemned the attacks and broken off diplomatic relations with Russian by bombing the Russian Embassy into the ground.
I must return and fight for the Empire, I may not like them but I am British and they will need all the resources they can get. This will be my last article for some time at least until the war ends! Below is a link to a piece of music that I think embodies my current feelings:

Exploding Drill
Hot news off the presses regarding a recent explosion on the Mars. My sources tell me that the drill site is to the east of the Plains of Curiosity named after the unmanned probe 'Curiosity' sent there in the early seventies. Leamas Industries are the co-owners of the project to find...well actually nobody knows what they expect to find by the drilling. One of sources on Mars believes they are looking for the Old One's energy source and their drilling point is a convergence of cosmic energy.
Having looked up their location in the Link's Mars map it appears to be dead center between four peaks some thirteen miles high, there are three peaks to the south-east of the drill site and the fourth to the north-west. My source goes onto say that the peaks in question are in fact of unnatural origins, she believes that they are part of he Old One's cyclopean cities and that any attempt to access their technology will result in disaster.
Well disaster they got when the drill hit something very very hard and the whole drill exploded, most drills would of just stalled but not this one. Below is a fantograph that my source took, unfortunately it is quite unclear and no real scale but it is from some of the 'rock' thrown out when the drill blew its top. According to my source it is at least twenty feet in height, I know the angle suggests different but he states he took it from one of the project's mini airships.
Dotted about on the ground in the ruins of the drill were nine cubes of dark metal each about six inches across. Leamas Inc. have reported that despite a few injuries there were no deaths and that most of the drill team are fine. Yet again Leamas Inc. are being somewhat economical with the truth my inside source states that two men and one women have lost their minds to the incident. One of the men tried to eat his own hand saying that it was no longer his own.
You have to wonder though why Leamas Inc. a maker of teabags is drilling holes on Mars, not to mention Leamas Inc's new company slogan: "Chaos is inherent in all compounded things. Strive on with diligence."

Who's There?
Our Globe is apparently about 4.54 billion years old according the Royal Institute of Applied Sciences (excuse my ignorance, scientists prefer the term 'Planet' the rest of us common folk just say globe) also according to the same institute humans appeared on the scene some 2.5 million years ago whilst the more modern humans turned up 200,000 years ago.
Based upon information found in Lovecraft's unpublished journals which the Empire have secreted away on Mars (one of my sources has copies, well copies of copies) for fear of panic regarding man's dominance over the Earth shows that before man walked, other older things live upon the land. Where these older beings went is unknown although Lovecraft mentions the dark spaces out beyond our solar system. There is of course the prophecy that they will return and retake the land for their own.

I will not go into the details because some are particularly gruesome suffice to say the recent Red Thames incident is now sending a distinct chill down my spine.

Bonnybridge's Iron Curtain
Had several different reports from sources close to Bonnybridge, the town is still locked down. However at night you can see a white glowing curtain of light emanating from one of side of the town, during the day it is barely visible, it reaches several hundred feet into the air. My sources tell me that whilst it does not look to be moving it is advancing just very slowly.
My sources also tell me that some wild life have been seen to pass through the curtain with fatal consequences.
Still no word from the Empire other than the continued disinformation of an outbreak of Typhoid. I am not sure how much longer the Empire keep the news blackout in place without causing a serious panic in the surrounding areas.

Voxigraph Directors
Remember my article back in early December last year about Lord Houl taking controlling share of the Bell’s Voxigraph, well I’ve discovered further changes have been made to the firm. Originally it had eleven directors including Lord Houl himself, now another two directors have joined the firm bringing the total to thirteen. These two new directors were well hidden from sight however I have managed to ferret out their identities. They are both doctors although what type of doctors they are I still haven’t managed to ascertain as yet but I do have their names:
This company will have a worrying monopoly on communications in the Empire and outside it too, I understand from my source in Norway that Russia have already placed orders for their military bases.
Knowledge is power, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. With complete control of communications across the lands Voxigraph will effectively remove a significant power block from the Empire, I wonder if the Empire is aware of this potential loss in their powers.

This company will have a worrying monopoly on communications in the Empire and outside it too, I understand from my source in Norway that Russia have already placed orders for their military bases.
Knowledge is power, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. With complete control of communications across the lands Voxigraph will effectively remove a significant power block from the Empire, I wonder if the Empire is aware of this potential loss in their powers.

Empire Bans Drug 9
In a controversial move the Empire through the House of Lords has passed legislation declaring the Drug 9 is now a controlled substance due to its extremely addictive qualities and potentially fatal withdrawal symptoms. Use or purchase of the drug is now a criminal offence with a minimum prison sentence of five years at the Acheron mining penal colony in the asteroid belt. Everyone knows that the average lifespan at Acheron is less than six months.
Defenders of the new faith are already calling it attack against their religious freedoms.
The Empire have made a serious error in this ban, I believe they have effectively walked into the trap laid by this new faith. By banning they have made it the most desired drug within the Empire, the prohibition years of the 1920s proves that. If you want to people to want something you ban it, people always want something that is illegally or forbidden.
Only a fool would believe a drug like 9 would ever be legalised for general public consumption considering its dangerous side effects. By banning it has also brought the new faith further into the public eye and the potential for new followers.
They would of have been better off applying the usual government red tape thereby slowing the whole process down by decades.
One of my sources however believes that the new faith has converts within the government and this was in fact the new faith's plan all along. This way they can sell the drug on the black market at a considerable profit.

Red Thames
A London evening newspaper reported that there was a decolourisation of the Thames near Wapping Docks this morning extending some thirty feet into the river, it was described as a deep red colour. It appeared to be like a slick oil sitting on top of the river. Max Drum London’s mad astrophysicist jumped on the news like a blackbird finding a juicy worm in the mud, his press statement was and I quote: “The scrolls have predicted this event: ‘…when the river runs red, death comes…’ we need to prepare our immortal souls, place your faith in The One NOW!”
Nothing ambiguous in that statement is there, fortunately a new source of mine was close to Wapping early this morning and was able to take a sample of the red liquid before Empire locked the entire area down. This particularly source knows his chemistry and was able to separate the various components of the sample:
I'm not sure what this all means I am no scientist but based upon information received I would say something happened last night and it was probably something bad!

What Lies Beneath
A recent source has sent me some curious information regarding tunnels beneath London. London to say the least riddled is with tunnels from the Underground to its notorious sewage network. My source found a tunnel connecting his cellar direct to the river Thames, ending close to Wapping docks. On the way back he slipped and nearly knocked himself senseless against what seemed to be remains of old Roman ruins, see fantograph taken below:
It was however fortunate that he slipped because otherwise he wouldn't of spotted something odd on the opposite tunnel wall, see fantograph taken below (click on it to see full size):
See the button like shape in the centre to right of the an evil looking head, not a button but a knob. When my source turned it forty five degrees clockwise into the nine o'clock position a section of the tunnel wall swung open revealing a second tunnel. After a quick investigation of this second tunnel however showed that it wasn't just one tunnel but many. My source had had the forethought to take a compass with him, the second set of tunnels heads mostly in a north eastly direction.
My source took samples of the red paint used to make lettering and symbols on the tunnel wall, he has just literally confirmed that it isn't paint but human blood.
The source was also quite surprised by the lack of rats in the tunnels being that the main tunnel leads directly to the river.

Yuletide Blackout & Giant Myth
Several of my sources in the north of England have reported to me that the small but well known village of Bonnybridge is currently under Empire news blackout and that all roads in and out have been closed off. The current disinformation is that there has been an outbreak of Typhoid fever, if that were true why the news blackout it is hardly the most virulent of diseases. Although in the early part of the 20th century many carriers of typhoid were locked into an isolation wards never to be released, they often deteriorated mentally, driven mad by the conditions they lived in, just typical of the Empire really back then. I'd like to think we have moved on from those times.
Now everybody who has ever looked into the subject of UFOs will know what Bonnybridge is really known for and my sources say it all started on the night the 21st the village apparently was locked down by the end of the next day. The Empire is never that efficient at least not for epidemics which means they must have been close by. This would also suggest that perhaps they were cause or were at least expecting something to happen.
Apparently several people in Falkirk still celebrating the feastivities saw several flashes of white light coming from the east of course this could of been anything. Eye witness accounts are pretty lousy to be with let alone drunk ones.
I had a single report from the Wales in the Cambrian mountains my source was walking his dog 'Woola' after their feast had finished about 11:30ish maybe later my source wasn't really sure because for some reason his fob watch had stopped at 11:43. Anyway towards the north of his position lay the mountain Pumlumon which has been closed by the Empire for some time now since the Conjunction back in May. The night was quite clear and although the moon was just half itself you could still see a fair distance, also the wind was blowing towards my source which aided in him hearing some curious noises coming from the summit.
First came three loud bangs my source says it sounded like an blacksmith's hammer hitting an anvil but much much louder. Actually what came first was my source's dog barking in the direction of the mountain and then growling until the three hammer strikes at which point it started to whimper. As my source was comforting his dog his head was turned away from the mountain but his ears towards it so he caught the full depth of the hideous scream that echoed back and forth across the land. After the scream had disappeared into the night my source decided that discretion is the better part of valour and began to make his way home with his trembling dog. He had not gone far when there a flash light followed by furious wind which nearly knocked him flat, looking back he saw and I quote “An orange demon in the sky laughing at him.”
There is a myth regarding a brass anvil on the summit which if struck three times wakes the giant that sleeps beneath. Another version of it states that not only does it wake the giant it will do your wishes. Sounds like a powerful weapon indeed and most myths have a germ of truth to them.
Since then I've had another source have a look at the mountain in question, during the day the summit appears to be a bustle of activity and air round the summit looks like kind of shimmery similar to what you would see on a summer's day on a hot road. The night however is a different story my source seems to think that Empire is shining a giant searchlight straight up into the night sky although the light appears to be coming directly from the ground so unless they dug a hole into the summit I do not see how they are managing that. Of course it could mean they have a secret underground base that could account for the light and the possible excess of heat during the day.
Who knows anything is possible.

The Riven
According to a recent press release by the eccentric astrophysicist Max Drum The Riven will open again on the 21st December. The 21st is the Winter Solstice to the rest of us and to those that are religious well you know what you celebrate and why.
Reporters did ask Max what exactly the 'Riven' is and answer was and I quote: “The battleground between the forces of Good and Evil some sixty years gone. The Evil is coming again, it will open the way our only salvation is The One. The One will save us! Put away your pagan rites join The One!”
Well sixty year ago was 1952 and '52 wasn't the best of years. The 'old' King died at such an early age of 56, there are a few conspiracy theories for the death. Of course we then ended up with his son George VII, I won't go into the conspiracies regarding him otherwise I would be here writing this article all year.
The peace treaty with Japan and the Empire is still considered by some as a completely pointless treaty. 1st May not a good day either with Germany insisting that they should reform the army purely for defensive purposes that was nearly World War III in the making.
Then there was the controversial banning of Andre Gide books by The Zoroastrians most people believe that the Empire influenced that particular decision, the Z's have always been whores to the Empire. There was no comment from the other two faiths.
The HMS Nautilus (Dreadnought class) is involved in the suppression of the Black Sea pirates, its slaughter can be compared to the events of '85.
July was a scary month, the Empire's capital in the New World/Americas was host to many strange lights in the sky and there was of course the earthquake during this time as well. At the time there was much panic in the possibility that the Elder Gods had returned despite the Empire's suppression of any arcane knowledge regarding Lovecraft's histories.
The floods in Lynmouth another disaster in which 36 lose their lives, questions were leveled at the Empire regarding the origin of the floods since the Empire report of: “a storm of tropical intensity broke over south-west England, depositing 9.0 inches of rain within 24 hours on an already waterlogged Exmoor.” did not match the pattern of destruction the village received. One local is reported to have said “Death came from the sea...”
October sees the death of 117 people in the 3 train crash in Harrow, several witnesses say they saw bright flashes in the sky before the crash. One of my sources states the signals were jammed by a lightening strike in an otherwise clear sky.
An 8.25 Richter scale earthquake hits the Kamchatka Peninsula of Russia during early November and several strange lights in the sky are reported by people in Norway. The origins of the fireball that crashed into a backyard of Havelock North is still unknown to this day.
The Killer Smoke of '52 is well known indeed however there some conspiracy theories that suggest that this was in fact a test of 'bio' warfare by the Russians all part of the Red threat. Similarly the outbreak of polio in the New World was another attack or test by the Red threat. There are others that believe that both events were attacks from the Elder Gods, they point to the lights in the sky during both events and witnesses that saw grey ghosts in the fog. Well anything is grey in a fog.
